The fourth edition of the Fellowship named after Gianni Bonadonna awards three young researchers

The Call for international Fellowship named after Gianni Bonadonna 2024 edition awards three young researchers that Fondazione Gianni Bonadonna (FGB), with Gruppo Prada as supporting partner and in collaboration with the European School of Oncology, is pleased to announce to mark the World Cancer Day 2025. Luca Boscolo Bielo, Marianna Palazzo and Federica Pecci will spend a training year in renowned oncological centers in the United States, where they will contribute to find new hopes of cure for many cancer patients.

Luca Boscolo Bielo, today in the team of Giuseppe Curigliano at the European Oncology Institute in Milan, will study breast cancer joining the group of Pedram Razavi e Sarat Chandarlapaty at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. With his project he will be focused on understanding how tumor clonality may modulate the sensitivity and acquired resistance to targeting ESR1 in metastatic, hormone-receptor-positive breast cancers to better stratify patients who are likely to benefit from targeted treatments, unveiling mechanisms of resistance to optimize treatment strategies.

Marianna Palazzo, oncologist in the group of Alessandro M. Vannucchi at the Policlinico Universitario Careggi in Florence, since the beginning of 2024 collaborates with the laboratory of Margaret A. Shipp at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and thanks to the Fellowship she will continue her research project aimed to characterize the genetic and microenvironmental signatures of extranodal diffuse large B-cell lymphomas, that have poor outcomes and represent an unmet medical need, with the goal of revealing subtype-specific novel therapeutic targets.

Federica Pecci, medical oncologist from the University of Parma, today at the Lowe Center for Thoracic Oncology of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in the team of Pasi A. Jänne, works on a project with the aim to characterize the clinicopathologic, genomic and immunophenotypic factors associated with efficacy of chemoimmunotherapy in resectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) to define biomarkers that can support patient stratification in clinical practice and related tailored therapeutic strategy in the perioperative setting.

After four editions, the “Fellowship Gianni Bonadonna” is now a mark for young doctors who want to meet the challenge of research in oncology. Fondazione Gianni Bonadonna, Prada Group as supporting partner and the European School of Oncology are thus excited to announce the Call for “Gianni Bonadonna” Fellowship 2025, to support young researchers in their path to become physician-scientists.
